Velvet Holiday

Prada Pre-Fall 2009 Collection
Style.com

Seems like the only time I ever have to update this blog is right before a test. This time being right before my only final this semester. Lovely. Rummaged through my bags of old clothing a month or two ago and found this faux long velvet skirt that has slits on both sides up to the mid-thigh area. Ever since, I've been looking for something velvet and have found nothing to my liking whatsoever. Probably because my expectations can never be met after I saw this Prada collection.

Thursday

                                   UT Engineering Corridor on Thursdays

This semester, one of the engineering clubs here at UT decided to start selling a pizza lunch which includes 2 slices of pizza, 1 can of soda pop, and 1 scrawny bag of chips for only $2. As you can see, the line is extremely long. I would say over 50 people deep. So deep it is that I cannot even capture all the people on my Iphone. Why hasn't anyone thought of the idea prior to this year? Why didn't I think of it? The best I saw in the years past was a small donut sale every Monday and Friday. Well, Thursdays now rein supreme and it doesn't seem like any bake sale or competition can come close. I blame every college student's need of the two C's: Cheap and Convenience.

Open Play!

My friend asked me to help out his team because they had been short one girl for awhile now. I had not been able to make it out until this past Thursday. It was so much fun! I haven't played since junior high and it felt great to be able to do something that I had enjoyed so much back then.  After being completely outnumbered as the opposing team had both an offensive and defensive team, I am proud to say that the team toughed it out and won by 2 points. My friend's team is undefeated and heading to the playoffs. With that said, I am completely sore and will need to recuperate.

Greek Feast

As much as I miss home cooked food and $1 per person meals cooked by myself at home, I do like eating out at least once in awhile. Correction. I LOVE eating out. So when you are on a budget, what do you do? For me, it's either hitting up happy hours or buying a $25 gift certificate at restaurant.com. Sign up to receive emails from them and be on the look out for as much as 80% off of their certificates. You can often buy a $25 gift card for only $2!

I'm not sure about other cities, but for Austin and Houston, they feature some pretty good restaurants such as Clay Pit and La Strada. Recently, I went to the family owned Greek restaurant,  El Greco, with John, and had a delicious feast for under $20 due to our $25 gift card. What a good deal as you can see! Left-overs were delicious.

Don't Want to Read Whitman, Emerson or Dickinson

Currently at the Library. Almost too embarrassed to post as it is midterm season and people all around waiting for a computer. I just lazily finished and submitted to my group mate the reference page I failed to send in late last night. When it gets late, my brain doesn't function too well. Neither does it function well early in the mornings. I tend to doze off during my classes after lunch. When does my brain really function?

Suppose to be studying for my English midterm. I opened Gmail and immediately got distracted by an email from ASOS.

Bad midterm grade? Blame the above boots.

Comfort

Anthropologie Outer piece, F21 Zipper Dress, Nine West heels

I wore this outfit a couple weeks ago. Thought I would post it now since I never got a chance to previously. I got both pieces when I went to Dallas in mid-August. I was actually surprised by the quality and look of the dress when I was scavenging through the North Park F21. A few hours later on that same day, I also scored the Anthropologie piece for a fraction of it's original price. What a happy shopping day that was.

Thought I'd get a quick post in before this week starts to get hectic. Since I promised myself that I would be more committed to this blog, I thought why not update each time I got a chance to.

Pretty typical day today. Came home and made this:

Yum. This is definitely going to be one of my staples.

Couch Potato

October is the month of the Texas State Fair, Midterms, Weather Changes (in Texas), and last, but not least MLB Post Season. And because of the latter, I will be for the next ~3 weeks acting as a couch potato with my eyes glued to our new television. Ever since the NY meltdown in the World Series to the Marlins when I was in high school, I took a break from baseball. Call it obsessive, call it stupid, call it Whatever you want. I am glad to be watching baseball again! In HD too!

MLB aside, it was a busy last 2 weeks for me. John and I took a short trip to Dallas - part "business", part recreation. We visited the State Fair and had quite a time. More about that in later posts. We were swamped with presentations, projects, midterms and afterwards, made a trip home to Houston to enjoy some time off with family and friends. All this was fun, but am I glad to be sitting here relaxing before another busy week!

Remember the snake skin leggings? From the previous post? Ha. Well, I found an outfit that I paired them with on on my camera today.

I am trying to make a commitment to update this blog more often. Let's see how this goes.

Consolidate

I told myself before I moved in to this new place thatI would cut back on all my other expenses in order to compensate for the higher rent. This included cutting back on all those sushi nights, reading the weekly grocery ads, and eating the terrible ends off bread loaves. Notice how all my cutbacks involve food. Yes, understandingly it is because my last four years in college have consisted of me eating out day and night due to certain circumstances in which I will not mention. I will say though, that it is quite pleasant to really have your own place and be able to cook your own food. I am digressing. Anyway, so how has my credit card bill been so far?

Well, let's see. After a make-up haul from Sephora, full batch of clothes coming in from Korea, more splurges at Neiman and Bebe, Saturday Night Seafood dinner, 500 + Channels HD Cable bill (oh, does anyone really watch more than 10 channels?) - I would say that the ole' credit card bill ain't doing so well. This was from one weekend, btw.

So you are scoffing and thinking how a lavish spender can save. Well, if you really know me and have been out with me at all, you will know that I am selective on what I buy and I will admit that I am a bargain hunter. No, not quite a full pledged slickdealer' yet, but I do like bargains, I do like nice things and yes, I will gladly take both at once or none at all.

Don't get me wrong though. I do like to splurge once in awhile. What girl doesn't? Those that say they don't are lying to you. Especially if they have the means to do so.

In this recession (well, economic downturn according to Bernanke), many have turned their heads' towards devising a plan to remain fashionable, yet more economical in doing so. The most common current trend is to thrift and only occasionally make purchases that will "last a lifetime"(think little black dress). Although I am all for this idea and do follow it from time to time, I am the impatient type who can't always be bothered to ravage through loads of clothing in a thrift store. So let's take this one step farther.

Instead of going to the local thrift store, let's go through our parents' old wardrobes. Yes, many of us aren't blessed with an amazing collection of hand-me-downs from our parents. So I propose this: let's go through OUR old wardrobes. And yet again there will be those who shoot down this idea as well, but let me tell you that I am almost certain that there are pieces in EVERY wardrobe that can be utilized in one way or another.

Trust me, I know. I was the Abercrombie-wearing, trend-following, typical teenager out there and YES, there are pieces in from my little Abercrombie collection that I wear to this day. So go ahead and keep your Abercrombie and Hollister as there is nothing wrong with that.  Although the "prep-look" has often been vilified more often than not in these past few years,  who am I (or anyone else) to judge  another person, especially when it comes to materialistic aspects of life?

This has been a long winded post, but one that I felt like is necessary. Not only does it act as (another) introduction to my blog, but it gives a preview on what you can expect from here on out.

I leave you with something that is pretty normal to the fashion blog world. On a typical day at school, however, it was a magnet for wide-eye stares:

So here it is.

First Entry. Written as I am watching Sportscenter celebrate it's anniversary with some old school clips. After several months of contemplating about what to write, how my layout will be like, and so on, I finally decided that what the hell, just start it already! So here it is. No, it is not impressive and no, it probably won't live up to it's title, but YES, I have gotten over the self-conscious part of this whole blogging thing.

Of course, reading other blogs did not help. From seeing extremely talented bloggers show their DIY creations to almost mesmerizing at beautiful girls who display their outfits of purchases that would make any girl green with envy (yes, a mouthful), it was hard to realized that it doesn't matter what other people think. It's not a competition. I only have one person to impress. Myself. I guess that's a tough enough task as it is.

Let it be known that this blog is purely for my own enjoyment. I don't expect it to have a bigger readership than one (due to force). I guess it will pretty much be about everything and anything I like. So, we (I) will see how it goes.
